Your Next iPad: What Features Will It Have?

An idiosyncratic survey of German consumers may not be indicative of what the rest of the world wants in the next iPad, but it does make you wonder what, exactly, Apple will do with the iPad 2.

The survey of 3,000 consumers by German shopping site Gutschein-Codes returns results that are simultaneously realistic and unrealistic, but either way, users’ desires are unlikely to be met are unlikely to be met. The top six desired features by popularity are:

Google TV Gets A New Logo - What Do You Think?

tv_logo.gifGoogle TV unveiled its logo this week. We're more than a bit interested as we are curious how a cloud-based, high-definition, mobile network will fare.

Google TV holds lots of promise but those first days out of the gate will be instrumental in how people view the service. The logo does matter. It won't make or break how it does. But it has to be memorable and identify it as a Google brand for both developers and viewers.

Here it is. What do you think?

iPhone Users Now Click on More Ads - Blackberry Users Still Ignore Them

diggsdigg

smaato_logo_aug10.jpgBlackberry users in the U.S. barely click on mobile ads, while those who own a Symbian-powered phone click on more ads than anybody else. According to the latest data from mobile advertising optimization platform Smaato, the most interesting development with regards to mobile ads in the U.S. over the last month is the fact that click-through rates for users of Apple's iOS devices have increased dramatically.

Worldwide, Symbian devices and feature phones still lead the pack with the highest click-through rates, followed by Windows Mobile phones and Apple's iOS devices. In the U.S., click-through rates for feature phone users are low, but it is worth noting that even those users with phones that were not designed for Web surfing are still more likely to click on mobile ads than Palm or Blackberry users.

iOS 4.0.2 Released, Fixes PDF Exploit - And Breaks Browser-Based Jailbreak

iPhone 4It was inevitable: Apple has released iOS 4.0.2 for iPhone and iPod touch (and version 3.2.2 for the iPad) to plug a security hole in the PDF viewer that allows a specially crafted PDF to run arbitrary code on a device.

Unfortunately for those looking to jailbreak their device (and there are good reasons to do so), this vulnerability was the driver for the browser-based jailbreak, JailbreakMe.com, that Adrianne Jeffries wrote about two weeks ago. If you upgrade to iOS 4.0.2, JailbreakMe.com will no longer work (for the moment, anyway; the second iteration of JailbreakMe.com is already underway) .

Apple Rumor: iTV Hitting in the Fall, $99?

appletv.pngRumors about the next iteration of Apple TV have coalesced around a few key facts - the device is expected to be named iTV, in the style of the company's more successful offerings, run customers an easy $99 and hit sometime in the fall.

Engadget is reporting that the set top box will resemble the iPhone 4's appearance and capabilities, including apps, but will only be capable of playing back video at 720p - a downgrade from the current Apple TV.

Apple first launched Apple TV in 2007, when it basically flopped. Steve Jobs tried again in 2008, when he admitted the difficulty Apple faced in trying to get Web-enabled TV into consumers' living rooms: "All of us have tried. We have, Microsoft, Amazon, TiVo, Netflix, Blockbuster. We've all tried to figure out how to get movies, over the internet onto a widescreen TV, and you know what, we've all missed. No one has succeeded yet."
