Who Needs iAd? Medialets Does Ads for Both iPhone and Android

One of the problems advertisers face when looking to launch a campaign on mobile devices is choosing which platforms to go after. Many have flocked to the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch ecosystem because of the sheer number of devices and the uniformity of hardware across the platform. Android devices, on the other hand, are much more fragmented, with varying screen resolutions and hardware capabilities, so launching ads on the devices is bit trickier. Mobile advertising platform Medialets has a solution to this problem as today it has announced that its Universal Android SDK (software development kit) is leaving beta.

Free Wi-Fi is Just a Small Part of Starbucks' Plan: Free Access to Paid Content Coming Fall 2010

Starting July 1st, Starbucks will finally begin to offer free and unrestricted Internet access over Wi-Fi in its stores. Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz made this announced at Wired's Disruptive by Design conference today. With this, Starbucks finally joins the ranks of neighborhood coffee stores all over the world that have long offered free and easy access to Wi-Fi. By Fall 2010, Starbucks also plans to give Internet users in its stores free access to paid sites, including the Wall Street Journal.

Hackers Port Flash to Jailbroken iOS

Even though Apple has very little interest in seeing Adobe's Flash run on the iPhone, the enterprising hackers behind the Spirit jailbreak tool have apparently managed to port Flash to the iOS platform. While the details are still murky, this video shows a well known Flash clip on a jailbroken iPhone.

Microsoft Introduces Xbox Live Video Chat with Kinect

Last night Microsoft unveiled Kinect, the company's foray into motion activated controls for the XBOX 360 gaming console that was previously known as Project Natal. Users can play games and navigate menus and web apps by waving their hands or by using their voice, but the camera in Kinect can also be used for social communication. Announced this morning at Microsoft's keynote at E3, Xbox Live users will also be able to video chat from their TVs with friends and family using Windows Live Messenger.

Visualize GPS Data From Outdoor Activities in Google Earth

Google has updated its popular desktop application Google Earth to version 5.2 which includes some enhanced functionality for both free and pro users. Both sets of users can now import data recorded from GPS receivers during outdoor activities and view them in Google Earth. Other new features launching today include an integrated Web browser to keep clicked links within the app, as well as new layers of data and tweaks to the Pro version.

RIM Speeding Up BlackBerry Browser with New Patents

RIM filed patents for technology that prioritizes different components of a Web page when loading and displaying it according to GoRumors. Specifically, it should make BlackBerry Browser load and display a page's main content before processing CSS and Javascript files. The patents further RIM's efforts to improve its mobile browsing experience as enterprises and consumers increase their reliance on Web apps.
