Sprint and Sierra Wireless announced their latest mobile broadband modem, the 3G/4G dongle that supports CDMA Dual-band 800/1900Mhz, GPS 1.5 Ghz L-Band as well as WiMAX2.5Ghz. The new adapter is currently only available for business customers, but should be available to all users by mid-July. Of course, it’s free after a mail in rebate (yay) with a 2 year contract.

The iPad as a Travel Companion

 

On June 7, I embarked on a trip to Europe. I debated whether I wanted to take my iPad or my hackintosh’d Dell Mini 9. In the end, I went with the iPad.

My biggest reason for considering the Mini 9 was the ethernet port. Some of the hotels I’ve stayed in in the past only had ethernet jacks. Fortunately I wouldn’t have to worry about that.

Microsoft Introduces Windows Messenger Live for iPhone

The app allows users to instant message their friends list, view and comment on friends' photos and status updates from Windows Live, Facebook, and MySpace,see what their Messenger friends are sharing via Flickr, YouTube, and other social sites.

On Mobile Flash, Apple Stands Alone


Adobe Systems announced today that its Flash Player 10.1 software for mobile devices is now being released to its platform partners. The plugin-based technology, which allows for a range of interactive elements including video, games and even advertising, is already available for Google Android phones running the latest operating system revision, code-named "Froyo," but technically known as Android version 2.2. This OS now runs on Google's Nexus One and is expected to arrive on other Android phones like the Motorola Droid, Motorola Milestone, HTC Evo, HTC Incredible, HTC Desire and the Samsung Galaxy S.

AT&T Texts iPhone 4 Owners with Activation Details

AT&T customers who have purchased or upgraded to the new iPhone 4 have started to receive SMS text messages pointing them to a newly published resource guide containing "important information about activating your device."

The link directs recipients to the page at www.att.com/iphone4upgradesupport which provides all the information needed regarding how to activate the new iPhone - yet another indication that iPhones may be shipping, as reported elsewhere, a day earlier than previously expected.

Google Maps for Android Adds Public Transit Times, Quick Business Reviews

googlemaps_jun10.jpgWith the launch of iOS 4.0 on the iPhone yesterday, Apple fans were treated to several new features, like multitasking and custom backgrounds. Unfortunately for iPhone users, Apple (which develops the iPhone version of Google Maps in house) didn't provide iOS 4.0 users with any new mapping features with which to play. Android users, however, will be happy to learn that Google has pushed an updated version of its Maps app for Android into the marketplace today, adding enhanced support for Place Pages and transit times for trains and busses.
