Sony Ericsson outs their first full-touch Walkman-branded feature phone: Yendo

Sony Ericsson YendoYou know, not all of us want a smart phone. There are people out there who only use a mobile to make calls, send texts, and listen to a few tunes.

They’re not the ones reading this blog, though. Maybe you know one of them and want to pass this information on?

Anyway, Sony Ericsson today announced (alongside their next Android handset, the X8) their first ever full-touch, Walkman-branded, probably-not-very-expensive, feature-phone: the Yendo.

The GSM-only handset will come in a plethora of colours (as you can see, in the gallery below)

The HTC Desire is coming to US carriers in August, but probably not in the way you want

Oh man! The week is nearly halfway over, and we haven’t had a single edition of Good News/Bad News yet — its been pretty much all good news, all week. What is this, day care? We can’t have you guys getting too optimistic. So, as it goes..

The Good News: The Desire (HTC’s slightly cooler, slightly sleeker version of Google’s Nexus One) is coming to carriers in the US.

The Bad News: It’s probably not going to any of the carriers you could name off the top of your head.

iPhone 4 pre-order shipping estimates bumped back yet again

I’ll go ahead and say it: if you want an iPhone 4 and didn’t pre-order yesterday, you’re going to have a hell of a time getting one on launch day. In fact, you might have a tough time getting one any time near launch day.

Yammer 3.0 For iPhone: Now With 100% Fewer Crashes

At the risk of pissing off our new office neighbors, I have a confession to make: I loathed the Yammer iPhone app. Don’t get me wrong, I love Yammer, and find it absolutely vital to our work. But the app was easily the least stable of the dozens of apps I have  on my iPhone. It was so bad, in fact, that I’ve been accessing Yammer through mobile Safari in recent weeks. But that’s why I’m happy to announce that today, with the launch of the latest version of the app, 3.0,

38% of iPads Outside of the US

The Top 5 iPad countries in AdMob’s network, based on the number of unique devices, were the United States (58%), Japan (5%), United Kingdom (4%), China (4%), and Canada (3%).  There was a dramatic increase in the number of unique iPad devices used in Japan, the UK, and Canada last weekend. But we have seen consistently strong iPad usage in China since the device first launched.

Sponsor post: Atimi – How to Successfully Market Your Mobile App

One of the most common mistakes companies make in developing an app, whether for iPhone, Android or BlackBerry devices, is the failure to create a broader marketing strategy. Without one, apps will go unnoticed in app stores or on the web. At Atimi Software Inc., app development integrates a marketing strategy that includes both traditional marketing and media outreach. Reaching out to the media to have your app written up or reviewed is not only a great way to gain publicity, but also a means to gain valuable feedback on the app.

5 iPad Apps That Changed My Mind

I was not optimistic about the future of the iPad prior to its release. It seemed a unicorn among horses in the tech world, something precious and therefore expensive, but without any real tangible benefit over its brethren in terms of functionality, at least for the average person. Clearly, I was wrong.

But what convinced me that I truly was wrong about the iPad and its prospects for the future weren’t the reports coming in about its tremendous retail success. That could still be accounted for by initial fervor for a new product by Apple, which, few will argue, has become the “it” company of late.

Should There Be iOS Support for the Mac?

My daughter loves her iPhone, and recently observed that the iPhone OS reminds her a lot of Mac OS Classic System 6 — the operating system on which we both cut our computing teeth some 18 years ago. I think she has a valid point.

iWork for iPhone and iLife for iPad?

With the rumored but still unexpected announcement of iMovie for the iPhone 4 and the adoption of Apple’s A4 processor in the new mobile device, it begs the question of what else could be in store for Apple’s iDevices.

Could we see iMovie or other iLife apps arrive for the iPad or even see iWork show up for the iPhone 4?

Apple Sells Out iPhone 4 Pre-order Units, Despite Hiccups

Likely you watched with a mix of horror and admiration as Apple’s iPhone 4 pre-order kicked off yesterday, nearly bringing down the Internet thanks to the ravenous hunger of the Cupertino faithful. Well, despite the fact that many couldn’t even force Apple or AT&T to take their money far in advance of the device’s actual release date until much, much later in the day, the iPhone 4 initial pre-order allotment has already sold out.

Still Really Want An iPhone 4? Find $5,000, Head To eBay

As you may have heard, Apple completely blew through its pre-order launch day iPhone 4s in less than a day (and that was despite major technical issues with the ordering process). It has now blown through the second wave (due in early July) as well. The current shipping estimate if you order right now is July 14. Ugh. But if you absolutely want one at or around launch day, the Internet, as always, provides an option.

Scanning eBay right now, there are roughly 400 iPhone 4s for sale (between the 16 GB and 32 GB models).

If you have found yourself like I recently have - stuck with video on an iPhone and a netbook, but no real way to edit it - then fret no more, because YouTube has added an editor.

While the YouTube Video Editor is certainly nothing to compete with the likes of Final Cut Pro or Premiere, it has the basic functionality needed to finally make it possible for those living the ultra-mobile, ultra-lightweight lifestyle to put their videos online without having to leave all the unwieldy odds and ends.
